We recently received our 2017 American Camp Association Accreditation score and we are excited to share with our CCB family that we received 100%!
You might be asking who is the American Camp Association (ACA) and what is the accreditation? We are happy to share this with you! The ACA says "Themain purpose of the ACA-accreditation program is to educate camp owners and directors in the administration of key aspects of camp operation, particularly those related to program quality and the health and safety of campers and staff. The standards establish guidelines for needed policies, procedures, and practices. The camp, then, is responsible for ongoing implementation of these policies. The second purpose of ACA accreditation is to assist the public in selecting camps that meet industry-accepted and government-recognized standards. ACA's Camp Database provides the public with eleven separate ways to search for the ideal ACA-accredited camp.
ACA is the only independent accrediting organization reviewing camp operations in the country. ACA's nationally recognized standards program focuses primarily on program quality, health, and safety aspects of a camp's operation. ACA's accreditation is administered through a peer-review process. ACA collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation."
Every 3 years (recently switched to 5) Camp Carolina is accredited by the ACA. The Accreditation is separated into different departments. Site and Food Service, Transportation, Health and Wellness, Operational Management, Human Resources, Program Design and Activities and Program Aquatics. These departments ensure the food served is safe, that the site is maintained and professionally taken care off, that all aspects of transporting campers are safe, that the infirmary and health of the campers is top notch, that we are running safe yet challenging and developmentally exciting programs for our campers.
The process to be re-accredited takes several months of preparatory work followed by a full day of on-site observation to see Camp Carolina in action. We were ecstatic to be given a 100% score at the end of the Accreditation process and look forward to proudly continuing to provide our campers, families, and staff with an incredible summer camp experience!
