Camp Carolina is based in Brevard, which is a mecca for mountain bike riders, as we have over 600 miles of dedicated maintain trails in Pisgah -- right on our doorstep here at camp. We also have DuPont State Forest just down the road with 80 miles of trails which is fast becoming a leading mountain biking destination in NC. It offers gentle forest roads to steep technical single tracks that cater to all skill levels.
We have a fleet of 30 premium mountain bikes in a wide range of sizes with front shocks and hydraulic disc brakes for extra stopping power when the hills get steep. Before we hit the trails, we teach campers how to use the bikes correctly -- focusing on positioning, proper braking, gear shifting, and maneuvering the bike.
All our biking trips are organized for the age and skill level of the campers on that day. We run half and full day trips which often include a visit to one of the six waterfalls in DuPont Forest for a quick cool off. We often shuttle the boys uphill so that they get to enjoy the downhill single tracks while focusing on improving their skills.
At the end of the camp session, we take an overnight "prize trip" to Tsali State Forest on the edge of Lake Fontana with the boys who are passionate about mountain biking. After a hard day riding the trails, the boys get to go for a swim then relax with s'mores around the campfire before bedding down under the stars.
