With over 100 waterfalls in our county the sound of falling water is never far away. Due to man’s influence on our natural waterways there are many manmade lakes and dam released rivers for our recreation.
The water-based sports we offer out of camp on local streams, creeks, rivers, lakes, sounds, and oceans are whitewater rafting, whitewater kayaking, fly fishing, tubing, surfing, wakeboarding, and sea kayaking. All boys who attend Camp Carolina will have the opportunity to go rafting. We have commercial permits on the Pigeon and French Broad Rivers. We have our own fleet of Self-Bailing Rafts and we train all our own Raft Guides.
Boys will be required to learn self-rescue on our lake before they go on moving water kayak trips. As their skills progress, they will be invited to attempt rivers that are more challenging. We continuously, throughout the session, work with boys on their flat, moving and whitewater skills to bring them up to the next level. Our Whitewater Instructors are all certified by American Canoe Association and Rescue 3 International.
We are in the heart of Southern Trophy Trout Water Fishing. We teach boys to fly fish in camp at our stocked trout pond. We only use artificial bait and catch and release where required; but we do love trout dinners on overnights!
We offer wakeboarding and tubing to boys who have completed the fifth grade. We run these trips on Lake Jocassee, which is a beautiful body of water that provides excellent swimming and coves with calm, flat water for wake boarding.
We paddle our sea kayaks locally on freshwater lakes. We offer full-day and overnight trips. All summer long, we offer surfing to boys who have completed the fifth grade. It’s only a 4-hour drive to Charleston, where we can paddle in tidal creeks and sounds, camp out on barrier islands and surf at Folly Beach!
