Future Campers

Camp Carolina is where it's at!

Camp Carolina is an overnight, all boys, high adventure summer camp. Serving boys from K-11th grade. Boys can attend camp for 1, 2, 3 or 4 week sessions or combine sessions to spend 7 or 10 weeks at the Best Place on Planet Earth!

Camp Carolina was established in 1924 and has been owned or operated by the Thompson Family since the 50’s! We have current campers whose fathers, uncles, grandfathers, and great grandfathers have attended camp. It's a special privilege to be a part of these family traditions and welcome new generations into the Camp Carolina Family. Camp Carolina has been making a lasting impression on boys' lives for over 100 years!

Location

Location

We are located in stunning Western North Carolina, more specifically, tucked away in a picturesque valley in the town of Brevard. Our area is known as "The Land of The Waterfalls." Camp Carolina's 220 acres of beautiful mountain land, trails, lake, and streams allow us to have an amazing in-camp program. The boys can also experience trips out of camp to the 2 million acres of public land bordering our property that include Pisgah, Nantahala and Cherokee National Forests; Dupont and Gorges State Parks; and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Amazing rivers, waterfalls, swimming holes, and mountains with rock faces and trails of all levels are all there ready to for us to explore!

Camp Philosophy

Camp Philosophy

Camp Carolina is an all boys summer camp where boys learn to feel with their hearts, do with their hands and live together in the spirit of brotherhood. Our boys are taught to appreciate the simplicity of life, value of human relations, wonders of nature, importance of self-reliance, respect for each other and our natural environment and the thrill of high adventure. A special effort is made to send every boy back home stronger in body, keener in mind, more appreciative of nature, nobler in character and more confident in themselves.

We value safety, respect and selflessness toward others. We work hard to maintain a well-rounded experience of health, fun and growth. Our camp leaders are guided to focus on “teachable moments” – that time when a boy is enthusiastic, interested, searching for answers and having fun.

THE OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN AWARD

Among the many things you can do at Camp Carolina, the only award you can receive is The Old Man of The Mountain Award which is given out in recognition of good citizenship. Boys do not receive awards of any significant merit for athletic prowess or excellence in any activity.

The award is comprised of 10 steps, with the first step being the Old Man of the Mountain paddle itself. After receiving their first step (the wooden canoe paddle) our campers can earn a brand on their paddle each session thereafter. This award is given on Friday nights at Campfire -- where the whole camp gathers to publicly recognize and celebrate each camper’s achievement. At Camp Carolina, being a good citizen means that you treat others respectfully and considerately, practice taking initiative in keeping our shared spaces clean, and work on being an overall positive member of the community under the guidance of our counselors.

Our Counselor Assistants (CAs) can earn a special True Gentleman brand after a successful session at camp, embodying the values of the True Gentleman poem (see below).

A few words from our families

I can not thank you enough for taking such good care of my boy. You get an A+, 2 thumbs up, and a top score for your welcoming approach, kind and supportive team, and great service. The opening day was awesome. It made my son feel good and me feel comfortable leaving him. Lofty and Chris (counselors) were wonderful! My son liked them both so much. They had a wonderful patience for him and found ways to connect with him. I think these two men really helped and supported him a lot. I feel blessed I found a good place for my little man.

Dec and "Tay-Tay" were awesome. They were kind and smiley at drop-off and from our son's reports they stayed that way throughout camp. When Spencer said he felt homesick the counselors reportedly offered comfort. They were really terrific and we so appreciated them!
